What is inductive study?

A three-step method of "learning how to learn" that is illustrated in Proverbs:

• Knowledge: gleaning the basic facts of a subject to establish a framework.
• Understanding: comprehending the relationship of the various facts to the whole counsel of God's Word.
• Wisdom: practical application of Biblical truth to our daily life.

Why study inductively?

Learning to study the Bible inductively enables the student to know truth personally while gaining basic learning skills.

Why learn how to learn in a Bible study?

As our handbook for life, the Bible is the basis of all wisdom. God wrote Scripture through men in a precise, orderly, grammatical manner.

Who can benefit?

Children's Inductive Bible studies can be handled by students who are able to read at a 3rd grade level. The concepts are sound for all ages (adults as well) and the studies have been used for family home studies even at the kindergarten level.

What "tools" are taught?

Students wade in gradually to using basic tools that help them see what is said in the text. These tools are useful in many subjects:

• Questions                  Who, What, Where, When, Why, How
• Key Words                Essential and repeated words
• Simple List                A successive list of subjects, words, places, people, etc...
• Topical List               List facts about key words
• Contrasts                   Opposites (the word "but" is a clue to contrasts)
• Comparison               Comparison of two things ("like" or "as" show comparisons)
• References to Time  Order of events
• Conclusion                 Summarize, therefore
• Character Sketch      Word pictures of person in Bible
