Background Information on CIBS

Children’s Inductive Bible Studies (CIBS) began with
a need to teach my own children how to study the Bible firsthand. As I
taught an adult Precept class, I wrote corresponding lessons for my 1st
and 3rd grade daughters. Other parents became interested, and God opened
the door for these lessons to become workbooks. The Know & Grow in
2 Timothy study was first presented at the Christian Home Educators Conference
in Denver, CO in June 1994.
Since that first conference, we have attended 50 home
school and church conferences around the country. A second study, Know
& Grow in Understanding God was introduced in 1995. Individuals from
3rd grade through adult; families, private schools and churches have used
these studies to effectively teach people how to study and know God’s Word.
Our goal is to equip students with the basic tools to
read and understand God’s Word firsthand. This is accomplished by teaching
the inductive method of study, given to us in God’s Word (knowledge, understanding,
and wisdom). Each lesson of each study has 5 days of work (@15-20 minutes
each day). The first four days introduce a tool of study to dig out the
facts from the text, and begin to understand those facts in context. The
focus of the last day is personal application of the truths learned. Tools
are introduced gradually, and reviewed frequently.
